Panteleimon

 

Neos Panteleimon is a village in the eastern municipality of Pieria Olympus with a population of 861 residents (census 2001). It borders north with the south and Skotina Platamonas, and is 36 km from Katerini and 56 km from Larissa. Apart from the official administrative division, locals stand three settlements: Old Panteleimon traditional renovated village; the New Panteleimon, who is also the official settlement; and Panteleimon Beach, summer resort with many tourists. The latter is a separate village in the administrative division.

The Old Panteleimon, the once abandoned houses have been restored by Greeks and foreigners in the past four decades, with great taste and elegance and has maintained the traditional architecture. Thought that was probably built in the late 14th century. The building was made by craftsmen from Epirus, which according to tradition, then worked in many villages of Pelion.

Recently the old settlement was launched and the Environmental Education Center.
Neos Panteleimon is one of the few settlements near the National Road Athens-Thessaloniki, which is located on 100th kilometer of the highway from Thessaloniki. Located opposite the castle Panteleimon and just 250 m from the Gulf of Thessaloniki. The settlement is built at the foot of Mount Olympus on a hill and surrounded by mountains with dense vegetation, mainly beech and chestnut.
